I feel so sad whenever I see people talk about being late to make fanart..
This isnt school + fanart doesn't have a due date + fandom doesn't expire + your art will have its place in the world + i love you
I don’t have food stamps but I need to know how to eat well for $4/day. Thank you for this.
I love this cookbook!
Tips and tricks on how to survive being working class.
I’ve seen this kind of thing before and a lot of them are full of random weird shit you’d never make…because of time constraints or like, it just sounds super gross.
But this one had a whole section that’s just “Things on Toast”. Another that was all about putting crap in your oatmeal to make it better. Those are fairly pedestrian and don’t take forever.
I haven’t looked through the whole thing yet but so far it’s actually pretty practical. Also if you’re broke like me and don’t know how to make Dal, you should get on that.
I also liked that there’s this at the beginning:
This book isn’t challenging you to live on so little; it’s a resource in case that’s your reality. In May 2014, there were 46 million Americans on food stamps. Untold millions more—in particular, retirees and students—live under similar constraints.
Been there. Done that. Advice on this art is always welcome.
The link above seems to be broken; here’s one that still works.
I am begging people to research and get in touch with the origins of their foods... so many myths about food would be dispelled if people actually worked on farms again or at least were familiar with agricultural practices...
No, my foods come from the tubby custard machine
Mmm nutrience
FTR, the comments weren’t “this should be more like avengers endgame.” It was more “this should have had a big epic battle between good and evil” or “i wanted them to have a big showdown at watford.”
And I was like — the Battle of Hogwarts already exists, and these books were never going to go that way. The whole point was to take left turns off the Hero’s Journey, and also to foreground the humanity of fantasy characters.
I also enjoy it when help arrives from Gondor, but that wasn’t the dance that Simon Snow and I were dancing. (That’s what the Mage wanted for him, not me.)
So … that is all to clarify the Avengers thing.
Often when someone doesn’t like your work, the best internal response is, “Ah. This wasn’t for you.”
i think there should be a game of entirely cutscenes and no gameplay besides hitting a button to advance to the next cutscene. just to make Gamers mad.
Those are called "visual novels". They're arguably one of the most popular game genres.
have your characters permanently disabled at the end of their story. It's not a punishment, I promise. You don't have to imply that your hero is going to "overcome" their disability at the epilogue.
I'm a "multiple interpretations of a character are valid" person until I see an interpretation that explicitly contradicts canon and then I start chewing on the drywall.
Me: "they are fictional characters and you can have whatever thoughts or interpretations you like! You may be close to the creators intent, you may not! What does it matter! There is joy in the exploration alone"
Also me: blorbo would not fucking say that
“This character is multi-faceted and has many valid interpretations of them, but there are also aspects of them that are so set in stone that if you take them away, you’re basically talking about a totally different character.”
I don’t get it, man. why. why do we have to homogenize everything. why does every product have to look and behave and feel the exact same way. why can’t tumblr maintain its individuality? why can’t it lean into the things that make it a unique and refreshing offering instead of scrambling to make it a carbon copy of twitter? sucks, man. sucks.
